30-Minute Trainings for Students and Faculty & Staff

SOS for Higher Ed offers 30-minute online suicide prevention trainings for both higher education students and campus faculty and staff.

These trainings use video and interactive learning to teach the ACT® (Acknowledge, Care, Tell) framework with practice scenarios and peer interviews tailored to each audience.

Key Learnings from the Program

Students hear from young adults who share their mental health struggles and recovery journeys, while faculty and staff hear from colleagues who have supported students at risk for suicide.

Through virtual role-plays and activities, participants learn to recognize signs of suicide in a student and connect them to resources, while finding ways to build connection on campus for all community members. SOS for Higher Ed also includes optional group facilitation guides to accommodate in-person workshops and extension activities to reinforce learning.

The Evidence Behind SOS for Higher Ed

Program evaluations have shown that the trainings were associated with significant improvements in participants’ preparedness, likelihood of intervening, and self-efficacy regarding responding to a distressed student.
